Working hard in the studio

Track session #2

I’ve taken the afternoon off from work because David (Joyful Hearts’ lead singer) and I are returning to the studio. Our musicians are coming back today to finish recording the last remaining tracks (5, I believe) for our first CD.

We haven’t set dates yet for our final vocal sessions but they will most likely be towards the end of October.

I’m really excited because I just found out that the studio has wireless internet access. The netbook is going in my back pocket.

Empire State Building will glow red and yellow

The Empire State Building in New York City will glow red and yellow tonight (Wednesday) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese Consul Peng Keyu and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony.

New York’s tallest skyscraper regularly changes its iconic lighting for holidays and events. But this time, the building’s choice of occasions to celebrate is drawing more attention than usual. In fact, some are quite upset about commemorating communism.

Where babies come from

I gave Eliana and Karys their bath tonight.

At one point, I walked out of the bathroom and upon my return heard Eliana say, “Karys is a hot chick.”

Karys quizzed her big sister. “A hot chick?”

“Yeah. You’re a hot chick. That means the boys think you look good and then they kiss you…on the lips…and then you’re a mommy.”

So there ya’ go. Now you know where babies come from.

Duh. And all this time I thought it was the water…

A reading lesson

What we dislike about Fall

I love Fall.

But there’s two things about Fall that Carmi and I both despise… spiders and school fundraisers.

Listen.

I know our schools are hurting for money.

But we don’t have a money tree in our back yard either.

Now every kid at church is going to hit us up come Sunday wanting us to buy cookies or cookie dough or candy or wrapping paper or any one of a hundred other things that we neither need nor want.

And I’ll end up being the bad guy ‘cause I’ll have to smile and say “no thanks” and then watch the poor kids slump and walk away.

Then Monday will roll around and half a dozen dads in the plant will totally ignore the “NO SOLICITATION” sign that I’m sure will be hanging from my office door. They’ll saunter in and try to throw a guilt trip on behalf of THEIR children.

Now.

Now our own kiddos have been sucked in.

They’re being asked to sell goods in exchange for disappearing trick erasers, light-up whistles, putty, clicker clacker pens, groovy glitter lamps and so much more.

No, I take that back.

Carmi and I will be expected to sell goods in exchange for those awesome prizes.

And we’re not salespersons.

So we’ll have the added responsibility of convincing Zane, Eliana and Karys that they don’t need a flying Xylo launcher, battery-operated excuse talking keychain or 6” flashlight with multi-color flasher anyway.

Ugh.

Confucius says…

Google changes their logo from time to time to celebrate various events, people and causes.

Today’s logo, or “doodle” as they are also called, on the Google China site is an obvious tribute to the Chinese philosopher Confucius, who was born on the 28th of September, 551 BC.

I’ll have to check with Zane this evening and see if he can translate the pinyin.
