ARTHUR and friends welcome a new character - a baby sister for Binky Barnes - this fall when the Emmy-Award winning series tackles adoption from a child’s perspective. On Friday, September 7th (check local listings) the series starring Marc Brown’s beloved animated aardvark captures a family’s experience with adoption in a special 2-part episode.
In ‘Big Brother Binky’, Arthur’s friend Binky’s family adopts a baby girl from China and Binky learns not only the importance of being a big brother but that families come in all different shapes in sizes. Binky manages the joys, and sometimes difficulties, of understanding his new sister with humor and imagination and becomes the proudest big brother in Elwood City.
Expanding upon the series’ well-established commitment to addressing topics that children of all backgrounds can relate to, this episode undertakes a topic that affects millions of people every day in all parts of the world. By exploring the adoption process from Binky’s anticipation of the baby’s arrival, to the ups and downs of getting to know one another, and finally to the joy of welcoming the baby into Binky’s heart and home, ARTHUR opens the doors for discussion around adoption among parents, children, and educators.
According to ARTHUR creator Marc Brown, “What the series does best is reflect the lives of kids in an authentic and fun way that resonates with both viewers and their parents. Because adoption is so important to so many families, we thought it was a great opportunity for ARTHUR to explore this subject.”
Executive Producer Pierre Valette adds, “We put a lot of work into this episode—including extensive research and interviews with many adoptive families. To tell this story thoroughly and well, we decided to devote both 11 minute animated stories in the episode to it—something that we rarely do. We hope that the millions of families touched by adoption in this country, and around the world, will find familiarity and accuracy in our portrayal of the experience of these characters.”

We have received some most excellent news.
Our case manager called Carmi and told her that our Letter of Acceptance arrived from China this morning for Karys’ adoption!
The LOA will be forwarded to us which we’ll receive tomorrow. Basically we’ll just check a box that says YES we want to adopt Karys (duh). Once it’s returned to China, we’ll wait for Travel Approval.
The process seems to be right on schedule and we should travel around mid-September.

It was a big day today because Eliana was baptized in our 11:00 am service. Our Youth and Children’s Pastor had the privilege of baptizing her along with six others.
Most of Carmi’s family, one of my sisters and brother-in-law from out of town and one of of my nephews and niece-in-law were present. Afterward, a total of 14 family members and friends came to our house for lunch.
Because of the lag time between pictures with our digital camera, this is the only photo I could get of Eliana looking out towards the congregation. Poor child looked scared to death but she did great.
Carmi and I are so proud of her and the decision she made for Christ totally on her own a couple of months ago.

So here we are. 48 posts and 24 hours later and the 2007 Blogathon is officially over. Well done, my friends. Indeed, well done.
I managed to stay awake throughout and, with the help of some generous sponsors, not only met but exceeded my financial goal for this year.
Now a busy day lay ahead so I must go.

Everybody is up, I’ve shaved and now feel almost human again.

I was able to get Eliana to lay back down in her own bed but now she’s making me feel guilty.
I peeked in her room just a minute ago. As soon as she saw me, her arm shot out as if reaching for me and she asked, “When can I get up?”
She wants me to lay down with her but I dare not.

Eliana just came stumbling through the house.
I need to convince her to lay back down in HER bed instead of crawling in bed with Carmi. Otherwise, Carmi will not be getting any more sleep this morning.
